Networking & Cybersecurity · 🇬🇧
Three of this week's five signals point to the same shift: enterprise networking buyers are moving from capex to opex models, faster than vendors anticipated. Cisco's slipping deals, the zero trust budget migration, and the consolidation pattern are all symptoms of the same underlying change in how infrastructure gets purchased.
For networking professionals, this means RFP criteria are changing in real time. Pricing models built on three-year hardware cycles are becoming a liability in deals closing before Q3. The vendors who adjusted their commercial motion six months ago are the ones winning now, regardless of product parity.
Non-obvious takeaway: The vendors losing deals are not losing on product. They are losing on sales motion. The companies winning stopped selling hardware three months ago and started selling outcomes with a consumption meter attached. That transition is organisational, not technical, which is why the incumbents are slower than their engineering would suggest.
Cisco confirms $28B acquisition of a major SD-WAN competitor.
Cisco just reshaped the enterprise networking market in one move. Every SD-WAN vendor will reprice their deals this week. Watch HPE Aruba's response, they have 72 hours to get ahead of this.

Nvidia acquires an open-source AI platform for $13B.
The infrastructure layer of open-source AI just got a corporate owner. Model distribution economics change immediately. If your stack depends on free hosted inference, price that risk into your Q3 planning now.

Q: What does this mean for our HPE Aruba renewal in Q3?
Cisco's slipping share gives you real leverage on renewal pricing. Aruba is chasing the same displacement deals, so ask for AI-native features to be written into the contract rather than promised on the roadmap. The practical move: request a consumption-based pricing option even if you do not intend to use it. Vendors under displacement pressure will often concede on terms rather than headline price, and terms are where the value sits in a three-year commitment. If they refuse to discuss consumption models at all, that tells you their commercial motion has not adapted yet, which is itself a signal about where they will be in eighteen months.
